Commitment
Rahao aims to create environments where children and young people are treated with dignity, listened to and protected from harm, exploitation, humiliation and inappropriate conduct.
Shared responsibility
Before a program, Rahao and the responsible parent, guardian, school, venue or partner should clarify supervision, permissions, emergency contacts, health information, transport, accommodation, reporting routes and named responsible adults.
Conduct
Adults should maintain age-appropriate boundaries, avoid secrecy and favour observable, accountable interactions. Corporal punishment, sexualised conduct, degrading language, bullying, grooming, discrimination and retaliation are not acceptable.
Participation and disclosure
Children should not be pressured to reveal private experiences. A facilitator who receives a safeguarding concern should not promise absolute confidentiality and should follow the agreed reporting and protection process.
Photography and media
Images or stories involving minors require appropriate permission and should not expose sensitive personal information, location or vulnerability. Participation in media should not be a condition of joining a program.
Reporting
Concerns should be recorded factually and escalated promptly through the designated safeguarding route and applicable authorities or services when required. Immediate safety takes priority.
Review
Every child-facing program should adapt this policy into a practical safeguarding plan for its setting, staff, ratios, accommodation, activities and partners.
