Separate and informed choice
Permission to photograph, film, record or publish should be clear and separate from general participation wherever practical. Declining media consent should not ordinarily prevent someone from joining a program.
What consent should explain
Consent should identify the type of media, intended channels, whether names will be used, whether the participant is a minor and whether material may be edited for length or design.
Children and young people
Appropriate parent or guardian permission and age-sensitive assent should be sought. Avoid identifying sensitive personal information, exact locations or vulnerable circumstances.
Participant stories
Quotes and stories should be represented accurately. Anonymisation should be offered where suitable, and healing or impact claims should not be exaggerated.
Withdrawal
A participant may ask Rahao to stop future use of identifiable media. Rahao should make reasonable efforts to remove material it controls, while explaining that printed, previously distributed or third-party-shared material may not be fully recoverable.
Internal documentation
Media used only for private program documentation should still be stored and accessed responsibly.
